RESEARCH How financial stress impacts employee wellbeing and productivity
A long period of financial pressure has put the mental wellbeing of employees under strain. Now, we've discovered that it's having a real impact on productivity and performance at work.
Productivity and performance dips
77% experienced financial stress this year.
45% of these are sleepy and tired at work.
54% say the stress has reduced their productivity at work this year.
35% feel less able to concentrate.
Others report absence, errors, and conflict.
People need help and support
More people are checking their payslips now than last year (13%-point rise), but many still struggle to understand much of the detail.
Concerningly, half of employees would not be confident getting an error checked and resolved, underlining the need for more openness around finance in the workplace.
We asked 2,500 UK and Ireland workers about how the cost of living impacts their wellbeing and working lives.
This research shows the clear link between financial wellbeing and ability to perform. More than half of those who have experienced financial stress over the last year admit it reduced their output at work. ”
